In a newly-released campaign ad, Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie addresses — and rejects — widespread calls for him to drop out of the primary.
“Some people say I should drop out of this race,” the former New Jersey governor begins. “Really?”
“I’m the only one saying Donald Trump is a liar,” Christie continues. “He pits Americans against each other. His Christmas message to anyone who disagrees with him: ‘rot in hell.’ He caused a riot on Capitol Hill, he’ll burn America to the ground to help himself.”
“Every Republican leader says that in private, I’m the only one saying it in public,” Christie concludes. “What kind of president do we want? A liar? Or someone who’s got the guts to tell the truth. New Hampshire, it’s up to you.”
Aggregate polling for Iowa puts Christie at a bleak 3.7%% of the state’s caucus, above Asa Hutchinson but below even Vivek Ramaswamy.
Christie fares better in the northeast — hence his ad directly addressing New Hampshire voters — but even there, he trails both Trump and Nikki Haley.
Christie’s anemic polling indicates that not only are his chances of securing the nomination virtually impossible, but the odds of him somehow spoiling Trump’s seemingly inevitable victory are also extraordinarily unlikely.
