According to sources, CNN says President Biden is not expected to face charges by Special Counsel Robert Hur for mishandling classified documents, enraging Donald Trump, elected Republicans, and conservative commentators.

The President has been under investigation by Hur, a lifelong Republican prosecutor, for nearly a year. Hur was appointed by Biden’s own Attorney General, Merrick Garland, last year.

Though CNN says the upcoming report being compiled by Hur will be critical of Biden and his staff, charges are unlikely.

Among others, Trump, an official RNC Twitter page, and conservative commentators like Megyn Kelly expressed their outrage on social media.

But despite their claims and baseless assertions of a double standard or two-tiers of justice, Biden’s classified documents case is meaningfully different from that of Trump, who was prosecuted by Special Counsel Jack Smith and indicted by a grand jury for more than 30 criminal counts.

Neither Biden nor Trump were entitled to possess classified documents or sensitive government material after leaving office.

But whereas Biden’s staff immediately contacted the relevant government authorities when the documents were located, Trump repeatedly lied to and obstructed the National Archives and Justice Department for more than a year as they attempted to quietly collect the documents.

Trump’s deceit and obstruction ultimately triggered the FBI to seek a search warrant. When it was granted, they searched Mar-A-Lago last year. The documents seized by the FBI included classified material and sensitive national defense information.

Audio recordings were also leaked of Trump showing such documents to civilian writers and journalists after he left office while openly admitting they were still classified and highly confidential.

As Trump’s own former Attorney General, Bill Barr, repeatedly stressed: Trump most likely would not have been indicted had he simply cooperated with the government and surrendered the documents as Biden did.
