Democratic Congressman Joe Neguse ambushed Republican Congressman Mark Green with his own words as Green testified before the House Rules Committee about his impeachment resolution against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

As chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, Green has been ostensibly responsible for Republicans’ impeachment effort against Mayorkas—though it is reportedly being done at the behest of Marjorie Taylor Greene.

During his testimony, Congressman Neguse introduced an editorial entitled “Americans Are Victims of the Impeachment Inquiry.”

“The subtext is ‘a lot of bipartisan legislation that enjoys widespread support sits gathering dust while Congress focuses on the impeachment inquiry,’” Neguse said. “I assume you disagree with this?”

“I do,” Green replied.

“You do,” Neguse repeated. “It’s interesting: these are your words. This is an editorial you wrote five years ago during the debate about the impeachment of former President Trump.”

“It’s fascinating to me that you changed your tune,” Neguse concluded before asking the editorial be introduced into the record.

Green is not the first Republican to conveniently alter his opinions on legislation. His leader, Speaker Mike Johnson, repeatedly criticized the notion of a single party impeaching a sitting president when Trump was in office—even as Republicans are attempting to do just that to President Biden.
