During a CNN interview with Kaitlan Collins, outgoing Republican Congressman Ken Buck castigated his party for their latest scandal about the impeachment of President Biden.
Buck’s remarks follow back-to-back bombshells which undermine the Republican Party’s already-weak case against the president.
First, the confidential human source who made unverified allegations of corruption about Joe and Hunter Biden was arrested by the Justice Department for making false statements to the FBI in those allegations.
Second, that same source admitted to the FBI that his allegations were falsehoods fed to him by individuals affiliated with Russian intelligence services.
In response, Buck told CNN’s Kaitlan Collins that “we were warned at the time that we received the document outlining this witness’s testimony—we were warned that the credibility of this statement was not known and yet people, my colleagues, went out and talked to the public about how this was credible and how it was damning and how it proved President Biden’s—at the time Vice-President Biden’s—complicity in receiving bribes. It appears to be absolutely false and to really undercut the nature of the charges.”
“We’ve always been looking for a link between what Hunter Biden received in terms of money and Joe Biden’s activities or Joe Biden receiving money,” Buck added. “This is clearly not a credible link at this point.”
Buck has long been a rare dissenter in House Republicans’ efforts to impeach the president, though he voted to formalize the inquiry regardless, justifying the seeming incongruity by saying his support for a formal investigation should not be misunderstood as support for impeachment itself.
Buck also announced last year that he would not seek another term in Congress, citing dysfunction within both Congress and the Republican Party.
