Fox News was forced to contend with a major new poll that has President Biden leading Donald Trump 50-44%.
The pollster, Quinnipiac, is widely regarded as conservative, but its results were nonetheless terrible for the Republican frontrunner.
“Quinnipiac has Biden up on Trump six points, 50 to 44,” said Peter Doocy, Fox News reporter and frenemy of the president, “The Biden team has been trying to pivot to general election mode, they’ve been focusing on abortion access and on union jobs and the Trump team has spent the past week or so dealing with his legal issues.”
Elsewhere, Fox anchor Harris Faulkner added that “Biden also has won over the majority of female voters at this point, independents, and voters with college degrees.”
Trump’s last remaining primary rival, Nikki Haley, was quick to pounce on this poll as she was interviewed by anchor Martha McCallum.
“He can’t win independents, he can’t win suburban women, and there’s a lot of other Republicans he’s not getting,” she said. “Think about the fact: he did not get 43% of the vote in New Hampshire. In the poll yesterday from Quinnipiac, he’s down 7% to Biden.”
Given the perceived gloom surrounding Biden’s reelection, the fact that Fox News has devoted so much airtime to this particular poll suggests that even they are willing to publicly recognize that the probable rematch between him and Trump is likely to be another nail-biter.
Nothing is guaranteed.
