When Fox News host Sandra Smith challenged Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna to identify the policies responsible for President Biden’s excellent job growth record, she presumably didn’t expect him to bring the receipts—but he did.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics recently released the jobs report for October 2023. At 150,000, the number was respectable but lower than the 180,000 many economists expected.
But after month after month of jobs reports which exceeded expectations, October’s report did little to undermine the fact that President Biden is presiding over an extraordinary job creation record, with approximately 14 million created since his inauguration.
One of the most prominent parties reluctant to give the President any credit is Fox News. So when conservative host Sandra Smith challenged progressive Democrat Ro Khanna to name what Biden policies contributed to this extraordinary statistic, she presumably expected him to deflect.
He didn’t. He answered, rattling off the American Rescue Plan, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS Act—
A surprised Smith interrupted, pivoting: “The reason I ask is because a lot of that is from the Covid pandemic, correct?”
Khanna graciously acknowledged that much of these gains are from the pandemic recovery, but reminded Smith that many of those aforementioned Biden policies were designed to accelerate and expand that recovery.
“Give the president credit for the recovery and the creation of new jobs,” Khanna concluded.
