Fox News’ Steve Doocy challenged Republican Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt if he’d fully considered the implications of his intent to use Oklahoma National Guard troops to help Texas defy the federal government.
Stitt is one of 25 Republican Governors who have expressed public support for Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s decision to defy both the spirit of a recent Supreme Court ruling and the demands of the federal government concerning the US-Mexico border.
Abbott, who’d placed razor wire and physical barriers along the border near Eagle Pass, TX over the objections of the Biden administration, has deployed the Texas National Guard to continue the effort even after the Supreme Court effectively ruled that federal agents could breach the barriers and cut the razor wire to access the border if need be.
“There are a number of Democrats who are calling on President Biden,” Doocy said, “[telling Biden] ‘you need to federalize the Texas National Guard.’ What that means is then no longer is Greg Abbott their boss, they are working for the commander-in-chief, Mr. Biden.”
“Have you thought this through?” Doocy continued. “If you send your Oklahoma National Guard down there and a bunch of other states send them down there, you know, all Joe Biden has to do is federalize all of them.”
“Your National Guard could be working for Joe Biden!” Doocy concluded.
Stitt had no direct answer, but instead appealed to the state loyalties of each Guardsman.
“So [Biden] would really be putting our soldiers in a tough, tough situation to protect their states against fentanyl deaths and illegal immigrants and terrorists in a lot of cases just to appease some administration with a political agenda,” Stitt responded.
