During an MSNBC interview, Democratic California Governor Gavin Newsom hyped up Democrats’ winning political streak over recent election cycles.

The California governor was interviewed in South Carolina by MSNBC host Alex Wagner as he stumped for President Biden ahead of the Democratic primary.

During the interview, Wagner expressed surprise at Newsom’s optimism about the upcoming presidential election.

“Progressives, Republicans, independents, whoever,” Wagner said, “might be a little bit stunned that you have [...] ‘incredible feeling of well being’—”

“Getting out there, getting on the campaign,” Newsom interrupted. “We’re just getting started! Tag, we’re it. Democrats, isn’t this great? We don’t just have to watch this Trump show 24/7 in this primary, where they’re defining the terms of debate and we’re reacting to that every single day. We’re now on the campaign trail.”

Newsom further argued that campaigning is what Democrats “are best at! Because we keep crushing it. Democrats, we keep crushing it. Look at all the elections you’ve won, Democrats! You keep winning. You keep outperforming. It’s extraordinary. Pat yourselves on the back!”

“Our message is working. Our values are American, they’re universal values. Our policies, Republicans begrudgingly celebrate and accept,” Newsom continued, mentioning how the Republican South Carolina governor boasted of the state’s Democratic-led initiative of electric vehicle investment.

“They can’t even help themselves,” Newsom concluded. “But they’re beneficiaries of all this because that’s the character and decency of the Democratic Party. We support people even if they didn’t support us in the election.”

Red and blue states alike have benefitted alike from President Biden’s legislative agenda, including critical investments from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, CHIPS and Science Act, and Inflation Reduction Act.
