The day after their party suffered a string of high profile electoral defeats, House Republicans turned to their default obsession: the Bidens.
Oversight Committee chairman James Comer issued subpoenas for President Biden’s son Hunter and his brother James. The GOP weirdly went so far as to release footage of Comer signing the documents as if he were a Hollywood film star taking autographs.
The subpoena demands Hunter and James to appear before the Oversight Committee for deposition. Comer also requested that other associates of the Biden family present themselves for transcribed interviews.
The most recent development in the GOP’s attempt to impeach the President involved two personal checks written from James to Joe in 2018—when Biden was not holding public office—as repayment for loans Joe had previously made to James.
House Democrats, White House spokespeople, and James Biden’s attorney have all confirmed that Republicans have bank records establishing the original loans and their repayments, with no evidence of impropriety.
The lack of any additional “bombshell” from the GOP suggests this is little more than an attempt to shore up their recent electoral and political embarrassments.
