Trump's administration continues to double down on ignoring national laws already on the books as it pertains to green card holders, international students, and those with H-1B visas, according to multiple immigration attorneys.

Following the directive of a president who made immigration arguably his biggest issue on the campaign trail, ICE is overhauling border protocols and has heightened security to prevent basically anyone from entering (or leaving) the country.

Recent cases have shone a light on how the administration is demolishing the rights of immigrants, notably green cards and their holders, also known as lawful permanent residents (LPRs), who secure a legal immigration status by having no histories of fraud, criminality or other illegal acts

New measures have reportedly led to more disorder for some at security checks and points of entry, as well as for lawful permanent residents returning to the U.S. from abroad.

"The revocation of green cards and arrest and detention of individuals in the U.S. without giving them an opportunity to prove their lawful status is a violation of due process," says Seattle-based immigration attorney Kripa Upadhyay.

All of this uncertainty and illegality has caused tentative US allies, like the United Kingdom, to update their travel advice for British citizens planning to visit the United States - now warning of potential arrest or detention if travelers fail to comply with entry requirements.

"You should comply with all entry, visa, and other conditions of entry. The authorities in the U.S. set and enforce entry rules strictly. You may be liable to arrest or detention if you break the rules," the guidance reads.
