After disgraced Congressman and pathological liar George Santos survived an attempt by his fellow House Republicans to expel him from Congress, he penned a letter of gratitude to those who voted to protect him. One of them, Democrat Jamie Raskin, was not impressed—and made that clear in a sharp response.
After Republicans protected Santos from a Democratic-led expulsion effort in May, some of Santos’s fellow New York Republicans introduced a virtually identical motion which was defeated two days ago, by a vote of 179-213. It needed a two-thirds supermajority to pass. 24 Republicans voted in favor and 31 Democrats voted against it.
One of the Democrats, Jamie Raskin, received a letter of gratitude from Santos. In it, Santos thanked the recipient for their respect for due process and the “sanctity” of the House of Representatives.
An unimpressed Raskin, a former law professor, scrawled a number of handwritten grammatical corrections and a scathing response, encouraging him to “apologize to the people of New York for [his] lies and deceit.”
The letter ended with a blunt: “P.S., it’s not shameful to resign.”
