President Biden’s reelection campaign raised more than $71 million this quarter, bringing his cash-on-hand to a staggering $91 million. In contrast, his chief rival Donald Trump raised a relatively paltry $45 million, with an even more miniscule $37.5 million in cash-on-hand.

This development is a continuation of Biden and Trump’s second quarter results, in which Biden pulled in $72 million compared to Trump’s anemic $35 million.

The impressiveness of Biden’s fundraising was emphasized by campaign co-chair Jeffrey Katzenberg, who confirmed the figure “exceeded the high-bar goals” set despite the fact that Q3 is generally considered a sluggish time to raise money.

This is stellar news for an otherwise unpopular president managing a number of domestic and foreign crises while Congress is paralyzed due to the incompetence of MAGA Republicans in the House of Representatives.

Additionally, the President’s campaign touted other accomplishments as well: raising $2 million since August from the memetic “Dark Brandon” coffee mugs and $2.5 million from a contest to meet with Biden and his former boss, the perennially popular Barack Obama. The campaign also doubled the number of donors committing to donating every month compared to Q2.

Because Trump remains competitive with the President in most polls, Biden needs every advantage he can get. Vastly (and consistently) outperforming Trump in fundraising without the need to lavishly spend on legal fees or a competitive primary is certainly that, enabling the President to unleash his mighty war chest in the rapidly approaching—and historically consequential—general election.
