House Republicans are once again going home for a long weekend in defeat after a series of failed attempts to pass individual spending bills, prompting one of them to demand that his colleagues tell him “one meaningful, significant thing the Republican majority has done!”
The outburst on the floor of Congress by Congressman Chip Roy, a particularly combative Republican, has gone viral.
“One thing! I want my Republican colleagues to give me one thing—one—that I can go campaign on and say that we did. One! Anybody sitting in the complex—if you wanna come down to the floor and come explain to me one material, meaningful, significant thing the Republican majority has done—besides, ‘well, I guess it’s not as bad as the Democrats’—”
Broken clocks are right twice a day so credit to Congressman Roy for his surprisingly candid observation about the dysfunction of his party.
The official accounts of the Democratic Party’s war room and President Biden’s re-election campaign reposted the viral video, concurring with Roy’s assessment.
Roy’s outburst followed a decision by new Speaker Mike Johnson to put the House of Representatives in recess until after Thanksgiving, due to a series of aborted attempts to pass individual spending bills—a demand of the far-right Freedom Caucus.
It seems the chaos within the House Republican conference won’t end anytime soon.
