In an interview with Fox News pundit Laura Ingraham, Republican Senator Tim Scott scoffed at the “Biden economy,” proclaiming that “we want Donald Trump” and “tax cuts.”

Scott, who ran against Trump in the Republican presidential primary before dropping out and eventually endorsing him, suggested that Trump’s presence and policies were economically better for Americans.

“We want a Biden economy? Ha!” Scott said. “No way do we want a Biden economy. We want Trump! Tax cuts, opportunity zones, and more opportunities for every American.”

One of the few major accomplishments of the Trump administration was the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which slashed corporate taxes and effectively added $2 trillion to the very national debt Trump vowed to eliminate altogether.

Studies show that the lion’s share of the benefits went to top earners and businesses rather than middle and lower class Americans.

Trump and other Republicans have made making those benefits permanent a central piece of his reelection campaign.

In contrast, report after study after consumer satisfaction poll indicate the economy under President Biden is quite robust: 14 million jobs created, historically low unemployment, a stock market constantly breaking records, cooling pandemic-triggered inflation, and impressive GDP growth.

Between these macroeconomic metrics and an increasingly positive consumer sentiment, there is a serious risk to Republicans that they may no longer enjoy their dominant polling advantage on the economy by the time of the election.
