Donald Trump was ordered by a New York jury to pay $83.3 million to E. Jean Carroll, a woman whom he repeatedly defamed.

The award included $11 million for damage to Carroll’s reputation, $7.3 million for emotional harm and other damages, and $65 million in punitive damages.

“We're looking at damages in this defamation case eclipsing $83.3 million,” said Fox News host Neil Cavuto. “That's staggering.”

Trump, who attended the trial, reportedly stormed out of the courtroom during closing arguments from Carroll’s attorney and, after briefly returning for his attorney’s final remarks, departed entirely before the jury rendered its verdict.

Carroll issued a statement declaring: “This is a great victory for every woman who stands up when she’s been knocked down, and a huge defeat for every bully who has tried to keep a woman down.”

In turn, Trump’s attorney Alina Habba, ranted to reporters outside the courthouse about the outcome and declared her intent to appeal.

In May 2023, Trump had been found liable of sexually abusing Carroll in a Manhattan department store in the 1990s and defaming her.
