Trump Promises to Indict His Political Enemies and Suggests He’d Run for an Illegal Third Term

In another instance of a dangerously-increasing habit, Donald Trump made yet another public promise to weaponize his future Justice Department against critics and political enemies—and seemed to suggest he would attempt to run for an unconstitutional third term if granted a second.

During a recent interview with Univison, Trump was asked if he would weaponize his future Justice Department against his political enemies—since he says it was done to him.

“Yeah,” Trump bluntly replied, “If they do this, and they’ve already done it, but if they follow through on this, yeah, it could certainly happen in reverse.”

After blaming President Biden for “letting the genie out of the box,” by allowing Trump to be prosecuted by Special Counsel Jack Smith, Trump said something even more ominous:

“They have done something that allows the next party—if I happen to be president and I see somebody who’s doing well and beating me very badly, I say, ‘Go down and indict them.’” Trump boasted. “They’d be out of business. They’d be out of the election.”

What’s particularly disturbing about this remark is that Trump seems to be suggesting he’d run for a third term if granted a second. Trump may not remember, but he was previously president from January 2017 until January 2021.

That was term one.

If he wins the 2024 presidential election and is inaugurated in January 2025, he will presumably serve as commander-in-chief until January 2029.

That would be term two.

The 22nd Amendment of the Constitution forbids any person from serving more than two terms as president. So how could Trump weaponize his Justice Department against a future challenger without trying to run for an illegal third term first?

Was this a slip of the tongue from a profoundly stupid man… or a glimpse into yet one more authoritarian scheme?

Only time will tell.
