Republican Governor Brian Kemp of Georgia, who said he’d support Donald Trump in 2024, nonetheless bluntly dismissed the latest round of 2020 election lies coming from MAGA: “The moon landing was real, Bigfoot does not roam the forests of North America, and the 2020 election in Georgia was not stolen.”

Recently, MAGA resurrected a long-dead falsehood that more than 17,000 Fulton County, Georgia, votes cast in the 2020 presidential election were found to be invalid. This, MAGA argues, vindicates Trump’s lie that the election was stolen.

In reality, this claim is roughly three years old and was first included in a failed lawsuit intended to overturn Joe Biden’s victory in Georgia.

But memories are fickle and so this resurrected falsehood has been circulating on social media, thanks in part to a signal-boost from major Trump allies like Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene.

In response, Governor Kemp’s spokesperson issued a blunt statement: “Retelling the same lies for three years does not make them true, even when citing bogus online blogs. The moon landing was real, Bigfoot does not roam the forests of North America, and the 2020 election in Georgia was not stolen.”

Despite the unambiguous language and Kemp’s history as a Republican and Trump supporter, his denial is unlikely to sway MAGA supporters or the majority of the Republican voter base—polls consistently show that the overwhelming majority of the GOP believes the 2020 election was stolen from Trump.
