Trump Tells Supporters Not to Vote in 2024

At a New Hampshire rally yesterday, Donald Trump capped one of his trademark incoherent, meandering speeches by telling his supporters not to vote in the election he hopes to win.
If you listen carefully, you can hear the faint thunderclap of countless Republican operatives and MAGA politicians across the country slapping their foreheads in frustration.
Indeed, Trump urged his supporters to focus instead on watching other voters in the upcoming 2024 election: “You gotta get out there and watch those voters. You don’t have to vote—don’t worry about voting, we got plenty of votes—”
This is not the first time Trump has threatened to depress voter turnout for his party. In 2020, Republicans everywhere feared Trump’s incessant criticism and calls against mail-in and absentee voting would allow Democrats to pull ahead—and may well have. In 2021, Trump encouraged supporters to not vote in the the 2022 midterms or 2024 presidential election.
Trump’s increasingly rapid cognitive decline has been apparent, but this is bizarre even for him—particularly since he’s once again running for the presidency.
On the other hand, a quote attributed to legendary military commander and French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte advises one to “never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake.”
