Donald Trump was fined $10,000 by Judge Arthur Engoron for violating a gag order previously imposed on him for the second time.
During a break in the New York civil fraud trial, Trump gave remarks to reporters in the hallway outside the courtroom: “This judge is a very partisan judge, with a person who’s very partisan sitting alongside of him, perhaps even much more partisan than he is.”
Though Trump’s attorney Christopher Kise bizarrely suggested Trump was referring to the witness Michael Cohen, Judge Engoron concluded that Trump was actually referencing the court clerk, whom Trump had previously disparaged.
Because the gag order demands Trump not make comments against Engoran’s staff, the judge ruled Trump’s remarks constituted a second violation of the gag order imposed back on October 3rd.
In his first violation, Trump had been previously fined $5,000 by Engoron for publicly disparaging the same clerk.
