Trump Wants to Classify Fentanyl as a "Weapon of Mass Destruction"

This means that the Sacklers will finally face consequences for creating the opioid crisis. Right?

Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order, early next week, classifying "illicit" fentanyl as a WMD. It's very clear that the purpose of this hyperbolic EO is a combination of designating fentanyl cartels as terrorist organizations, creating justification for conducting military operations in Mexico and Canada, and creating justification for breaking up homeless encampments and deporting drug users who aren't (or are) citizens.

This isn't the first time that fentanyl has been suggested to be a WMD. In 2022, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody pushed to classify fentanyl as a WMD, leading a bipartisan group of 18 state attorneys general in the effort.

In an administration that is proving to be a dictatorship that ignores the Judiciary branch, this move will give ICE even more power to harm. It could even lead to ground wars with our greatest ally Canada, as part of Trump's deluded wish to make Canada the 51st state. Indiscriminate classification of citizens and non-citizens as terrorists for selling or possessing "illicit" fentanyl is just another overreach by the Trump administration in its mission to destroy American democracy.
