Utah Republican Mike Lee Supports Trump in Ironic Endorsement

Republican Senator Mike Lee of Utah is officially supporting Donald Trump for the presidency in an endorsement message filled with ironies.

Lee, one of Utah’s two Republican Senators, made his endorsement to Laura Ingraham on her Fox News show. 

“The American people have a choice to make,” Lee said, “They have a rare, historically-unusual chance to choose between two presidents. They have a chance to choose between order and lawlessness.”

Lee’s preferred candidate, Donald Trump, faces a combined total of 91 criminal counts in two federal prosecutions—one for willfully retaining national defense information, another for his unlawful schemes to overturn the 2020 election—and two state prosecutions in New York and Georgia. 

“Look, whether you like Donald Trump or not, whether you agree with everything he says or not, he’s our one opportunity to choose order over chaos and America First over America Last,” Lee continued, referring to a candidate whose influence has warped the House Republican conference into a nexus of dysfunction and unproductivity, who praises foreign dictators, and who received millions of dollars from foreign adversaries while serving as president.

“And, look, in presidential campaigns there are already a lot of promises made. My favorite kinds of political promises are promises kept. Donald Trump has kept promises that he’s made as he’s campaigned in the past. We know what kind of president he will be,” Lee added, referring to a candidate who promised to: build a wall at the southern border funded by Mexico, failed to deliver and has since mocked those who believed him; repeal and replace Obamacare and failed; to wipe out America’s national debt and added $8 trillion, the highest in a single presidential term; enhance national infrastructure and failed; and create the nation’s greatest economy, only to preside over its utter ruin in his fourth year. 

“You’re weak,” said former Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger to Lee on an X post. “Just like MAGA.”
